Borrowing Policy

The library is free for anyone to browse and use the internet. You must have a library card if you wish to borrow library materials.

Cards are free to residents of Wiscasset, Alna, Edgecomb and Westport Island. Identification with proof of your residency is required when applying for a library card. You must show current identification with a current mailing address.
All children through the eighth grade must register in the Children’s Room. A parent’s signature is required.
Library patrons may borrow most materials from the library for 3 weeks. Items may be renewed in person or by telephone up to three times.
Interlibrary Loans (ILLs from other libraries) circulate for 3 weeks. They can be renewed once.
Reciprocal borrowing is available at several libraries. Take your Wiscasset card with you to the participating library. The borrowed item can returned to the owning library or to your home library. Ask a staff member for a flyer that lists the participating libraries.

The Wiscasset Public Library does not restrict access to library services, materials, and facilities based on the age of its library users. Parents and guardians have the sole responsibility and right to guide their own children’s use of the library and its resources. Collections are separated into varying age levels (children’s, teen and adult) and formats for the convenience of its customers’ use.

Please read the overdue policy to learn about restrictions that may apply.
